What to expect from cedar.
- How long does a cedar fence last?
- 15 to 30+ years, depending on the grade of wood. We build with high-grade Western Red Cedar - naturally rot- and weather-resistant - never pressure-treated pine.
- Do I have to stain it?
- No. With the Western Red Cedar we use, staining is optional, not required. If you want to, wait about 30 days for the wood to fully dry first, then use a quality stain.
- Will it turn gray over time?
- Cedar naturally weathers to a silvery gray. A power wash brings back the natural tone, though it'll gray again - that's just the wood doing its thing.
- What about gaps between the boards?
- Wood is wet when it's installed and shrinks slightly as it dries, which can leave minor gaps between pickets. We set the boards knowing the wood will settle.
